The Return of the Comeback, Summer Edition!

Today, I am reviving this blog again after more than a year of hiatus. Just got busy with a lot of stuff. But now, I can return to writing for this blog. Summer is already here! And during this season, its all the more important to wear your sunscreens.  But wait… Are you not curious about how sunscreens work?   What is SPF? How is it measured? How do sunscreens protect the skin from ultraviolet rays? What’s the difference between physical and chemical sunscreens? Are sunscreens safe? I’ll try to answer these questions in a series of blog posts later on. I’ll also try to review some sunscreens (both local and imported) and present to you the anatomy of a sunscreen product. See you in the next post!

Product Review: Safeguard Gentle Micellar Face & Body Cleanser

Image
Another micellar product available on the local market today, Safeguard Gentle Micellar Face & Body Cleanser is one of the newest product launches of the Safeguard brand. Launched last 2020, this product claims to gently lift up to 99.9% of germs, dirt, and oil. Based on their clinical test on dryness, this face and body cleanser claims to be as gentle as water. This product has an opaque, creamy appearance and a strong fruity odor. I tried to use this product as a shampoo, face cleanser, and body wash. As a shampoo, it did not totally strip my hair of oils. It has good wet and dry comb performance and I did not need to use conditioner after using it. As a face cleanser, it gently cleaned my face without leaving it dry and taut. But just a word of caution if you are going to use this as your face cleanser. If you have a history of irritation or allergy with fragrances, this product might not be for you, as this product has a very strong fruity fragrance. As a body wash, it ...

Product Review: Pantene Micellar Detox and Purify Conditioner

Image
This product is a light conditioner recommended for dry and oily hair types. This product works well with me, specially when I test shampoo bases on my hair, leaving it dry and tangled. It has good wet-combing and dry combing effects and does not make my hair feel heavy after use. Behentrimonium methosulfate (BTMS) is the cationic surfactant present in this product. It conditions the hair via electronegative adsorption, wherein the positively BTMS gets attracted to the negative charges on the hair fibers. This allows BTMS to deposit into the hair even after rinsing off the conditioner. Now let’s look at this product’s ingredient list: INGREDIENTS: Water, Stearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetyl Alcohol, Fragrance, Isopropyl Alcohol, Benzyl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Histidine, Panthenol, Panthenyl Ethyl Ether, Butylene Glycol, Mentha Arvensis Leaf Oil, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Menthol, Niacinamide, Algae Extract, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylis...

Product Review: Garnier Micellar Oil-Infused Cleansing Water

Image
For this blog’s first product review, we would be looking at Garnier Micellar Oil-Infused Cleansing Water.  This product is a biphasic micellar water, with its oil phase floating on top of its water phase. This product claims that it is effective at removing even waterproof makeup while being gentle to the skin. This product contains Argan Oil (INCI Name: Argania spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil as its main emollient. Argan Oil is used in a lot of cosmetic products for its supposed skin and hair benefits. Aside from Argan Oil, this product also contains Decyl Glucoside, a naturally-derived non ionic surfactant, that is significantly milder than your traditional anionic surfactants like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). This ingredient allows this product to remove all that dirt and makeup from your skin. Now, let’s have a look at its ingredient list INGREDIENTS: Aqua/Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isohexadecane, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate,...
